Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC) training for technical staff in Indonesia
FIVE technical employees of PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNGPCL) will soon undergo mobile harbour crane training in Indonesia in preparation for the use of the recently deployed mobile harbour cranes (MHCs) at the ports of Port Moresby and Lae.

The training will be provided by Gottwald Port Technology who are the suppliers (sellers) of the MHCs and will be for a period of two weeks commencing 5th to 16th of March this year.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Stanley Alphonse said “this is in line with plans to urgently develop operational and maintenance competencies of the MHC technical staff.”

“The training is facilitated once a year to induct the buyer’s (PNGPCL) technical staff therefore this is an excellent opportunity which our human resource learning and development team will manage,” Mr. Alphonse said.

He stressed that the training is also in line with the MHC Cash Contract signed between Gottwald Port Technology (Gottwald) and PNGPCL for Gottwald to provide classroom training to PNGPCL technical staff.

Deputy Chief Operations Officer – Policy & Planning, Mr. Kamit Nanadai said the technical staff are ready and will learn and know the general set-up of the cranes and become familiar with the product documentation after attending the training.

“They will also be able to perform the maintenance work and fault diagnosis, understand the fundamentals of the electronics and hydraulics of the MHCs, and read the circuit diagrams and hydraulic drawings.” Mr. Nanadai said.

He said that the technical staff will also undergo training to perform the functions and settings of the drive units and assemblies such as the hoists, slewing gears and luffing gear as well as on the brakes, steering and stabiliser.
