| PNG Ports Corporation sponsors 2011 Media Awards Night PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNGPCL) supports freedom of the Media in Papua New Guinea and has provided a sponsorship of K3,000.00 towards this year’s Media Awards Night. PNGPCL presented the cheque of K3,000 to the Media Council of PNG (MCPNG) which is the peak media body in the country comprising of main media outlets and organisations. The annual media award is the occasion that recognises and honors the achievements of journalists, broadcasters, advertisers and people of various sections of media organisations. The Awards Night is also aimed at advancing the media industry and achieving the goal of improving quality output in all sectors of the media that is akin to international best practice. PNGPCL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Brian Riches said: “PNG Ports Corporation is committed and would like to partner with the Media Council to promote media freedom and acknowledge the vital role media plays in the economic growth and development of the country.” Mr. Riches said: “We as a corporate citizen of PNG support advocacy and by teaming up with MCPNG would like to lobby media freedom including freedom of expression and information and lifting the profile of the media industry in the country,” Mr. Riches He said PNG Ports Corporation also supports good governance and sustainable human development. Mr. Riches further thanked the media industry for providing consistent profiling of PNG Ports Corporation’s services and programs in particularly its remodeling exercise aiming at transformation the Ports of Port Moresby and Lae into being modern, commercially viable and competitive ports. This year’s Media Awards Night will be staged on Friday 2nd December at the Crown Plaza Hotel. It is anticipated that the awards will encourage members of the industry to strive to improve quality of products and services consequently lifting the profile of the Media in PNG.
