Changing Sky line for Lae Port As pictured above the cranes has created a change from the normal day to day operational procedures. The mobile harbour cranes have a maximum lifting capacities of up to 200 tonnes and working radius of up to 56 metres which can be used to load and discharge all types and sizes of ships. The arrival of these cranes is part of PNG Ports current remodeling exercise aimed at transforming Lae Port including Port Moresby into being modern and commercially viable as well as competitive ports. It is anticipated that one more habour crane will deployed to Lae while another in Port Moresby. Recently, PNG Ports has been facing significant challenges which affects the operational efficiency of its Port Moresby and Lae ports. These challenges have been influenced largely by the increase in demand in recent times due to the positive economic growth that the country has experienced. The utulisation of these cranes combined with the on-board ship cranes will significantly improve the productivity rate of both ports and greatly reduce the berth occupancy rates and ship waiting time.
