| PNG Ports fully supports the fight against HIV/AIDS in the country PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNGPCL) is committed to ensuring that continuous awareness on the fight against HIV/AIDS in its workplace is maintained. In doing so, the Corporation has in place a HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy to help employees better understand this social plague and in turn be advocates to their families and friends in reducing the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the country. This was the sentiment expressed by PNGPCL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Brian Riches during the commemoration of the World Aids Day recently held at its Head Office. “As an organisation we are privileged to have a HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy. Therefore, it should be used to our advantage as this epidemic is now becoming a developmental issue that requires our collective efforts to address it and by way of better understanding the issue and knowing how to prevent it, is the best option available,” he said. Mr. Riches stressed the importance of preventing HIV/AIDS both in and outside of the workplace and said: “This social plague has the potential of affecting social and professional lives of individuals, consequently, we must be opened minded and help those who are affected to live normal healthy lives.” He said PNG Ports supports the fight against this epidemic and sees educating its employees about its Workplace HIV/AIDS Policy as a significant and effective measure to assist in addressing this fast and widespread disease affecting the country. Since 2009, the Corporation has participated in the Campaign only at its Head Office and Port Moresby Port with staff wearing red ribbons and also a red hang down ribbon to mark 1st December as the World Aids Day. However, for this year, an internal program was rolled out at all its Ports throughout the country to enable employees to understand and pariticpate in the implementation of Workplace HIV/AIDS policy in PNG Ports. For more information, please contact: | |||
